Long Island Junior Soccer League

LIJSL InterLeague

The Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) InterLeague platform offers an alternative option for U9 and above players that perhaps are not able to make the full commitment to the requirements of travel soccer. InterLeague provides a focus on an environment for those that perhaps are still best served in a more developmental based, but still structured program.

Through its’ member clubs, LIJSL began offering such intramural based programs more than 25 years ago when Bethpage, Levittown, Island Trees and Plainedge formed the ‘BLIP’ league program. This program offered U9-U15 age groups a non-travel option for the first time. Over the years, the geographic footprint expanded to include more clubs, teams and players, and eventually became known as the ‘135 League’.

In Fall ‘18, at the request to support member clubs, LIJSL began administration of the ‘135 League’ U13+ age groups, eventually taking on full oversight and support for all age groups beginning Fall ’19. For Fall ’20, the former ‘InterTown’ program, which included western Nassau based clubs, joined under the League’s renamed InterLeague umbrella.

InterLeague gives clubs the certainty needed to navigate through yearly intramural registration fluctuations. It also gives clubs, coaches and teams the structured schedule they are looking for with the flexibility needed to keep game day matches competitive.

As InterLeague continues to expand, LIJSL now acts as the registrar, administrator, coordinator, and scheduler of the league. All teams can feel confident that they will receive the same level of support as the league’s travel teams.
