The Long Island Junior Soccer League is deeply saddened to announce the passing of, Marc Stein, member of the Leagues’ Board of Directors, and longtime LIJSL volunteer.
“The sudden and unexpected loss to the LIJSL soccer community and to our Board and organization of Marc Stein leaves a huge hole to fill. We have lost a friend and colleague, who wherever he went and whatever he did in life – he left his mark. He was “Larger than life”, his passion and enthusiasm to serve was there for all to see. His decades contribution to his local community, to Bellmore (JFK HS) Varsity soccer and LIJSL were immeasurable, and we are all deeply saddened by this news”, stated LIJSL President Andrew Seabury.
Marc has been a vibrant and active member of the LIJSL family for more than two decades; Member of the Board of Directors as well as the Rules, Games, Registration and Cup committees.
His presence was always visible and well-spirited. Whether it was at the LIJSL Convention conducting coaches meetings, handling club and player registration at the League office, or directing and emceeing the trophy ceremony at the Long Island Cup Finals.
“Marc was a well-respected man who enjoyed life. The volunteer work he performed for the LIJSL was greatly appreciated and he will never be forgotten. He was a role model for many people and his contagious smile and laughter will be sorely missed,” said Anthony Maresco, former LIJSL President, who worked together with Marc on the Cup for more than 15 years.
Marc’s dedication to LIJSL was one of a kind, serving not only as a volunteer, but as a mentor, teacher, and friend to so many. His contribution to the Long Island Junior Soccer League both on the field and off the field has left an everlasting impact.
“Words cannot express how much we will miss him. Our deepest condolences to Marc’s wife Ann, and the entire Stein family,” Seabury added.
