With the end of 2024 approaching, LIJSL held its winter Semi-Annual General Meeting on December 10 at the Long Island Huntington Hilton.
During the course of the evening, many successes were highlighted. They included the strength of the LIJSL Academy, which has three teams competing at the USL Youth Finals this weekend, new initiatives like the Elite Clubs Alliance League, and the partnership with the Long Island Soccer Officials.
“The SAGM is a great opportunity for our club presidents to hear first-hand what is happening within LIJSL,” Sporting Director John Fitzgerald said. “Though we are connected throughout the year, the SAGM is a face-to-face event, and it’s always good to be able to see and meet the people who are behind the scenes.”

LIJSL alumni Lauren Gallagher, who is mental fitness coach and school psychologist at Harborfields Central School District, also gave a presentation on the importance of mental health for the players in the League.
“Once again, we had an LIJSL alum, who is still strongly connected to the game, come in and present to our league leaders,” Fitzgerald said. “Lauren played and coached in LIJSL, and works with many of our players in the field of mental health. Her presentation was informative and relevant to the current player and his/her issues.”

The LIJSL is excited to continue the League’s progress heading into the 2025 Spring Season, which kicks off March 22.
“We will be hosting “roundtable” discussions with smaller focus groups of club presidents, as announced, and look forward to continue to support the work that is going on within our clubs,” Fitzgerald added.
