Selection Of LIJSL Academy Players To Compete At Invite-Only New York Red Bulls RDS Invitational

A selection of LIJSL Academy players is headed to the New York Red Bulls training facility on May 10 to play in the invite-only RDS Invitational. The players are from the same age group that won the North Atlantic Division in USL Youth play this past summer.

For the past six years, New York Red Bulls have hosted the RDS Spring Invitational, which is an elite invitation-only tournament for U11 and U10 boys. The tournament features top teams in the New York Metro area and beyond.

“We are very excited about taking part in the NYRB RDS Invitational tournament,” LIJSL Academy Director Ronan Wiseman said. “The coaches and players are looking forward to competing against some of the best academies in the area.”

The festival-like atmosphere is focused squarely on youth development and giving players the opportunity to play in a friendly tournament at a state-of-the-art facility.  The event is cost free for participants, no results are kept, and there are no playoffs or tournament winners.

While there are no tournament winners, there are rewards for players putting their best foot forward. After each game, teams will nominate two players from the opposing team as game MVPs. Each nominee will garner points towards becoming their team’s overall MVP of the event and receive recognition on the field at a future Red Bulls game at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

The LIJSL Academy team will feature at the event against New York Red Bulls Academy, Fox Soccer Academy, and Success Academy, among others.
