An LIJSL Academy U10 boys side featured at the New York Red Bulls RDS Invitational on Saturday, May 10 at the Red Bulls training facility. At the invite-only event, the LIJSL Academy played against other top academy teams in the region and beyond, squaring off against the likes of the New York Red Bulls Academy and Fox Soccer Academy, to name a few.
Since the event’s sole focus is to promote youth development, no results of the four contests the LIJSL Academy competed in were kept. Each team, however, had an overall team MVP selected who will be honored at a future Red Bulls game at Sports Illustrated Stadium. That player for the LIJSL Academy was Joe Berkey.
The group that competed this past Saturday are no strangers to success on the field. The core of the RDS Invitational squad helped win the North Atlantic Division in USL Youth play last summer as they prepare for another run in league play starting in June.
“Our LIJSL boys had a great experience at the RDS Invitational tournament,” LIJSL Academy Coach Danny Espinoza said. “We were able to compete against some very talented teams, and it was a great preparation before our summer season commences. We look forward to our future teams participating in this event again. Truly a great event.”
