Honoring Nanci Apostolides, Retiring After 40 Years of Service to the Long Island Soccer Community

After serving the Long Island soccer community for over forty years, Nanci Apostolides is retiring. The LISRA executive director was recognized at a small gathering on Thursday by LISRA board members, LIJSL board members, and League staff.

Starting out as a coach, Nanci’s soccer career began at the West Babylon soccer club. Eventually, she took over the reigns as Club President. But the club level was not enough, she began to volunteer for LIJSL and get involved from a macro perspective. Nanci served on a multitude of LIJSL committees, volunteering countless hours which impacted tens of thousands of youth players.

“Most are familiar with her long-standing activities as the Executive Director of the referee association and as an assignor. However, Nanci’s contributions to our league are equally as impressive,” stated LIJSL Managing Director, Steve Padaetz.

“Girls game chairperson, member of the Chase/Waldbaum’s Cup, Hall of Fame, Scholarship, and Convention committees amongst them. For her contributions to LIJSL, and LI area soccer, she was inducted into the League Hall of Fame in 2004,” Padaetz added.

As she takes the next steps of her life and moves into retirement, LIJSL would like to congratulate and thank Nanci. Her contributions to the youth game were extraordinary, and we wish her the best with her future endeavors, happy retirement!
