For a coach at any level, education is vitally important. It goes beyond what drills coaches can run, but highlights best practices, including on how to communicate to players effectively.
This spring, the Long Island Junior Soccer League will be relaunching coaching education, with several course announcements expected in the near future.
“Coaching education is the core critical part of a coach’s journey and influence,” LIJSL Director of Coaching Education John Fitzgerald said. “It not only provides knowledge of what should be done, but it also strengthens confidence, which inherently fosters enjoyment. These important elements – knowledge, confidence, enjoyment – can then be holistically passed along to our young players. An added benefit is that well-educated coaches can add to a player’s continued involvement in the game.”
LIJSL will offer several different grassroots courses for varying age groups, which include the 4v4 Diploma Course, 7v7/9v9 Diploma Course, and 11v11 Diploma Course. Each of these courses meet the mandatory ENYYSA compliance for U9, U10 coaches.
Individual coaches, trainers, and club administrators may register directly to take an LIJSL-hosted course. A list of courses for the spring/summer will be announced shortly.
Member clubs also have the option to host courses. Their coaches will register directly with their club once a club-hosted course is confirmed.
