The Long Island Junior Soccer League announced today that Andreas Lindberg has been named the new Academy East Director ahead of upcoming tryouts.
“I’m excited and looking forward to joining the LIJSL Academy program and being part of developing the game and players on the eastern end of Long Island,” Lindberg said. “The program got off to a good start last year and I hope to build on that success and grow the program and take it to the next level.”
Lindberg is the current men’s head soccer coach at Seton Hall, where he led the Pirates to the Big East Championship in 2020, which was the first time since 1991. That same season brought an NCAA tournament appearance, which was the team’s first since 2005.
Prior to taking the role at Seton Hall, where he has coached since 2018, Lindberg was the men’s soccer coach at LIU-Post, amassing an incredible record of 139-30-15 to go along with eight East Coast Conference (ECC) regular season championships, six ECC Tournament championships, seven NCAA Tournament appearances and four NCAA East Region championships and berths into the tournament quarterfinals.
The LIJSL Academy program was redeveloped last year, which included teams in Super Y as well as the East and West programs. The Academy East and West programs will be holding tryouts at the end of the month.
“I’m very happy to welcome Andreas to the LIJSL Academy program,” LIJSL Technical Director Ronan Wiseman said. “As a current Division I college coach at Seton Hall, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help the players and coaches in the Academy East program. Andreas has over 20 years of experience in coaching youth on Long Island and can provide young players with the proper advice and guidance to help them continue their soccer careers into high school and beyond.”
Lindberg joins returning Academy West Director Carlo Acquista for the 2022 campaign.
