Following a philosophical redirection of the Player Development Program (PDP), the LIJSL Academy has set dates for tryouts for the inaugural squads.
“I am very excited about the launch of the LIJSL Academy, starting with the program’s first tryouts,” LIJSL Academy Director Ronan Wiseman said.
The LIJSL Academy is a training and games-based program that is focused on delivering elite-level training and competitive games in a developmental environment. The program is supplemental to what players are doing at their clubs and it should complement their clubs’ training.
The LIJSL Academy is organized into three age-based sections:
Pre-Academy – for players born 2012
Academy – for players born 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008
Academy Showcase – for players born 2007, 2006/05, 2004/03
Both the Academy and Academy Showcase age groups are eyeing their first year in USL’s Super Y League for the summer of 2021. This competition attracts some of the most competitive youth teams in the country. Players in Super Y League are given a developmental platform that could potentially lead to SYL scouting network attention, and an invitation to the USL Experience.
“Having the players compete in League play with a chance to progress to a national final is a great motivator for players and coaches alike,” Wiseman said. ‘Good competition combined with elite-level training on a regular basis will be significant for the players.”
