Carlo Acquista Named Academy West Director

The LIJSL Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of LIJSL alumnus, Carlo Acquista as the Director of the Academy West

Born and raised in Queens, NY, the soccer veteran played on the St. John’s 1996 NCAA men’s D-I National Championship team. At the youth level, Acquista played for LIJSL member clubs, Auburndale, Bayside, and Commack. Following successful coaching stints at St. Francis College and Adelphi University respectively, Acquista is presently the head coach of the NCAA D-I men’s program at Fordham University.

On top of leading successful collegiate programs, the Queens native served as a scout for MLS’s New York Red Bulls, where he aided in the construction of their MLS roster. Additionally, he held the lead scout and recruiter role for their USL and PDL rosters. Furthermore, Acquista has been a U.S. Soccer Coaching Education instructor, a Region I ODP coach and evaluator, and currently holds a USSF “A” Coaching License.

“As a former youth player in LIJSL, I was always searching for more opportunities in soccer,” said Carlo Acquista, Academy West Director. “This program will provide players a platform to learn, develop, and compete at higher levels and at an early age.”

The LIJSL Academy West aims to provide elite-level training and development to players residing in Nassau and Queens Counties at an economical-friendly price. The program launches in the Spring 2021 with two rounds of I.D./ Tryout Sessions.

“I’m very happy and excited to have Carlo direct the Academy West program, he has a great history of developing youth players in the area,” said Ronan Wiseman, LIJSL Academy Director.  “I am confident that all of the players in the Academy West will benefit from his leadership and guidance.”

Tryout / I.D. Sessions for the Academy West begin on Sunday, April 25th and continue on May 2nd.
