West Hempstead’s Jessica Lee Awarded National TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year at U.S. Youth Soccer Gala

January 24, 2020 – West Hempstead’s own Jessica Lee received the National TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year award this past weekend at the U.S. Youth Soccer Gala in Baltimore, Md.

In conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention, U.S. Youth Soccer hosted their annual award gala on January 18th. The annual gala attended by many notable figures in the soccer community, recognizes the outstanding contributions of youth soccer members through 12 awards, including the TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year.

The 16-year old’s impeccable service to the TOPSoccer community stretches back as far as 2010. At only seven years old, Jessica with the help of her mother Lauren, organized a one-day camp. The camp designed for players with disabilities, attempted to gauge interest from the local community. This event along with an unmeasurable passion for helping others was the foundation for what is now known as the West Hempstead TOPSoccer program.

When Lee was initially recognized as the recipient she stated, “I believe that all kids should have the same opportunities in life.”

The Long Island Junior Soccer League applauds Jessica Lee for her tremendous efforts with the TOPSoccer program.

U.S. Youth Soccer established the National TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year award in 2009. For consideration nominees need to display many crucial traits such as understanding, dependability, and patience.

The TOPSoccer program provides individuals with intellectual and physical challenges a place to learn, play, and enjoy the beautiful game. During TOPSoccer events, a buddy is an individual who serves many essential roles – coach, guide, supporter, role model, and friend
