That Maya Angelou quote are words that John Deutsch lived his life by.
He passed away in January of this year, but he certainly hasn’t been forgotten. The Westbrook Soccer Complex in East Islip had an Adirondack chair installed on September 9 in his honor. His love of the sport often brought him to the Complex to watch East Islip Soccer Club’s many athletes.
Deutsch was a longtime volunteer at the club as well as the Massapequa Soccer Club and was inducted into the LIJS Hall oof Fame in 2017.
The next time anyone visits the Westbrook Soccer Complex they are encouraged to sit and watch the games with the same appreciation that Deutsch did and to remember that life is good.
