The LIJSL Academy East and West teams took the pitch for the first time this summer at the Seaside Classic on July 11-12 in Rhode Island. It was a strong showing from the Academy overall during the weekend.
“Our first tournament together at the Seaside Classic in Rhode Island was a tremendous success,” Academy West Co-Director Mike Borra said.
“Our Academy West teams embraced everything the weekend was about – competing in a positive environment, challenging themselves against quality opposition, and continuing to grow as a group. After just eight training sessions together, our players demonstrated remarkable progress, improving with each match while representing the Academy with outstanding effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship.”
Four teams finished in second place – BU9 Academy West, BU10 Academy West, BU12 Academy West, and GU11 Academy West – and one team finished in third – GU10 Academy West.
“While we’re proud of those results, they tell only part of the story,” Borra said. “The experience gained, friendships formed, and confidence built throughout the weekend are what will have the greatest impact on our players’ long-term development.”
The Academy East and West teams will next be in action when they compete at Liberty Cup Long Island on July 25-26.
“We look forward to building on this momentum as we turn our attention to the Liberty Cup this weekend,” Borra added. “Another opportunity awaits to compete, learn, and continue growing together.”
