The LIJSL awards scholarships annually to players in their senior year of high school that have best exemplified the character the LIJSL was founded upon. The recipients of the scholarships have also made a positive in their communities in a variety of ways.
In 2024, over 25 scholarships were given out to exceptional college-bound boys and girls.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to apply for a Long Island Junior Soccer League Scholarship, all applicants must:
- Be a graduating high school senior the year of the application
- Plan on attending a university, college, or trade school in the fall following graduation
- Have participated in the Long Island Junior Soccer League for at least five seasons (Participation need not to have been in successive seasons, but should include at least one season of participation during the applicant’s junior or senior year of high school)
- Have been involved in extracurricular school activities
- Have been involved in community service
Application
All applications must be completed and received by the LIJSL Office no later than April 15 of your high school graduation year

All required items to be considered for an LIJSL Scholarship can be submitted below:
- Application
- Letters of recommendation, addressed to LIJSL Scholarship Committee and one (1) must be from a soccer coach and one (1) from a person who knows you well (teacher, school administrator, employer, community service director, religious leader)
- Current transcript and a copy of SAT/ACT scores
- Brief resume, including description of community service and volunteer work
- Soccer resume, outlining LIJSL, tournament, and high school participation, any awards received for soccer and the coaches/clubs for whom you have played
- Essay of 250 to 500 words on the following subject: LIJSL’s motto is Building Character Through Soccer. The topic of your essay will be How My Character Was Built Through Soccer. Please note that this is your opportunity to share something about yourself that may give the Committee more information than that which is apparent from the application and distinguishes your application from other similar applicants
