Select PDP Keeping Busy! [ Jul 10, 2012 ]

While many teams are ratcheting down their soccer commitments this time of year, the LIJSL Select PDP program is as busy as ever with tournaments, camps, trips, and showcases.

This past weekend was a good example. More than 450 players competed in the Central Jersey Invitational and Pocono Cup tournaments with great results! The 95/96 High School Boys program sent three teams to the Pocono Cup, with the A team finishing with a 2-0-2 mark and just missing out on the championship final based on a goal-differential tiebreaker. Goalkeeper Matt Houlihan was outstanding, facing 12 shots on goal in the first game of the tournament, and making a game saving stop near the end of the 4th game to preserve a key win. Patrick Quigley, Neil Feminella, Zach Zeises, and Sam Dudley led the scoring.

“This is a terrific group of boys and parents,” said 95/96 boys head coach Paul Bigilin. “All in all, the boys played great team soccer, and though they found themselves participating against men physically stronger, they didn’t back down at all.”

The beat goes on for the Select PDP players this week as they kick off the annual required Select PDP camp today at Peter C. Collins Soccer Park. The ’99, ’00, and ’01 teams will play in an additional tournament over the next two weeks, the high school players will be taking college tours in the north and southeast while training and competing in tournaments along the way, and the 1998 teams will be headed to England for their annual trip!

Don’t forget, all those wishing to try out for the LIJSL Select PDP teams this year, tryouts continue on August 5th and 11th at the Peter C. Collins Soccer Park. Tryout details and instructions can be found here, but you must register in advance. Please click here to register.
