Red Bulls Win 1st Development Academy Title [ Jul 30, 2012 ]

The New York Red Bulls defeated St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri, 1-0, on Monday in the Development Academy U-15/16 championship game at Houston's BBVA Compass Stadium. Alex Muyl scored the lone goal at the 16th minute mark of the 1st half to give the Red Bulls their first academy title.

New York ran their unbeaten streak to 12 games with the win, a streak that dates back to May, with a team that includes seven players from the US U-17 Residency Program. That group includes Muyl and goalie Evan Louro, who recorded his third straight shutout with four saves.

This year marked the first time two MLS-affiliated teams captured championships. FC Dallas earned the U-17/18 championship on Sunday with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Last week, the Red Bulls announced that LIers Bryan Sorto of HBC and Carlos Alverado of Albertson were named to Red Bull Academy teams. It’s exciting to see them joining such a successful program!
