NSCAA Coaches Corner: Transitioning 2 v 2 to Targets [ Jun 20, 2012 ]

One of the most important moments in soccer is the transition from defense to attack. Teams can exploit over-extended defenses and score goals quickly. This is the first and most basic of a series of exercises that will help you condition your players to look immediately for the counter-attacking option.

 


2 v. 2 to Targets
Organization

Two players per team, with teammates on the end line acting as targets. Target players may
move sideways along the end line.
Field is 44 yards long by 20 yards wide, with 4-yd goals marked by flags

Description
2 v. 2 (Circles vs. Triangles in diagram)
Teams can only score via a 1-2 combination with teammate on end-line. Target players are
restricted to one touch.

Purpose
Win ball – Look forward
Look to play the vertical pass immediately to target
Both attackers sprint to get ball back from target player and score.
