[INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLIES] Jamaica tuned up for its World Cup 2014 qualifiers against the United States with a 2-0 win over El Salvador thanks to a pair of
goals by Luton Shelton.
The game was the first of two friendlies Jamaica coach Theodore Whitmore has lined
up to prepare for the two-game series with the USA Sept. 7 and 11.
“Anything we do now is towards the USA game," the former Jamaica international nicknamed "Tappa" told
the Washington Post. "We know it’s going to be a tough game, but it’s preparation. We are preparing ourselves to beat this U.S. team.”
-- Guatemala, which is also in the
USA's qualifying group, played to a 3-3 tie with Paraguay in the first game of the doubleheader that drew 14,185 fans at Washington's RFK Stadium.
The Chicago Fire's Marco Pappa scored once from the penalty spot and set up Manuel Leon for Guatemala's second goal. Paraguay then responded with
three goals before former MLS star Carlos Ruiz added a goal of his own from the penalty spot for his 50th career international goal.

friendly played at a at a cricket stadium in Lauderhill, Fla.
-- The Ecuador-Chile friendly was played in a stadium more familiar to American sports. A crowd of 31,901 fans braved the
rain at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, to watch Ecuador win, 3-0.
